Quality of Life
Housing & Community Resources
The City of Lodi is committed to “quality growth” and strives to protect its historical, small-town charm through an annual growth management program. The City is compact and efficiently designed, with a large stock of classic, vintage homes located within easy walking distance from its historic downtown.
Newer developments offer contemporary designs with nearby parks and schools. Sales records place the median purchase price for a home in 2006 at $362,000, well below those commanded in the adjacent San Francisco Bay Area or Greater Sacramento communities. Crime rates remain low while community pride reigns high - a result of a well-regarded public safety structure and numerous community service organizations.
Lodi’s established medical community serves over 150,000 - far more than those that reside within the city limits. The local hospital was established in 1952, and is gearing up for a $160 million remodel project, slated to begin in 2007.
Cultural Events & Recreation
Whether you're a resident or a first time visitor, there are plenty of cultural and community events to enjoy. Seize the moment at the Zinfest, Downtown Wine Strolls, Christmas Light Parade, Grape Festival and Harvest Fair, Sand Hill Crane Festival, Wine and Sausage Festival, and many other events occurring throughout the year.
Hutchins Street Square, the City's performing arts and conference center, is home to multiple community programs and events. Its stunning 800-seat theater offers a venue for live entertainment and meetings as does its adjacent outdoor amphitheater and various conference and community rooms.
Sports and Recreation are key to Lodi's quality living commitment. Enhanced by its mild seasonal climate, 28 parks and specific-use facilities covering more than 400 acres, Lodi features a variety of recreational interests and activities for youth and adults. Lodi Lake Park complements the area's many outdoor recreational venues and the Delta waterway system. Residents also enjoy the benefits of close proximity to the San Francisco Bay Area and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, each just a 90-minute drive away.
